Red Part 1

Into to Red completed for this years university hand in, sang by Heg Doughty. I am to go back over it again next year and add other elements to the forest like growing vines and more dynamic camera movements. I also aim to create little red and the wolf in full CG. Happy Christmas, the wolf is coming!

Red Book Cover

This week is hand in week for university, before we break up for Christmas. My computer will be rendering for the next 22hours (according to my maths) then a few hours tweeking, compositing and all should be well for the hand in on Friday. Until then here's one of the full HD1080 frames. Enjoy

Red - Preview

I rendered out a full test of the opening to the song at low res. I’m going to continue to play with the lighting as I’m getting some glare on the table. Also thinking about adding some more props inside the book, like some grass or a path texture on the pages. The book cover and plaque on the wall need texturing correctly too.  The video is 640x360 and better quality without maximising. :)

Dream Home - Advanced Lighting and Modelling Module

Work from earlier on this year for an advanced lighting and modelling module. I wanted to create a house that I would dream to live in, possibly set in Canada or some other wonderful place. I set up the render cam from the beginning, created the house, textured the parts that would be in shot and lit the scene. I then created a depth and ambient occlusion pass which was composited later in Photoshop. Finally I key framed parts of the house being made to give an idea on how this was created.

The most rewarding thing about creating this house was seeing it come to life in the final render.

Elizabethan style 3d assets

I   have now completed the modelling of the Library, globe, desk and stool, the reseach I did for the models was on the Elizabethan era. I looked at different periods in time and the Elizabethan Period caught my eye as being the most interesting. the library wont feature fully in this animation just one corner, so I may come back to finish this off for another project in the future

storybook test

Working with the textures and Tea-stained effects I created a back drop and then went back in to reduce the side of the mesh on the trees. Animating them to grow out of the book once the page turns. need to introduce the bushes, a sun, clouds and then design the light for the shadows.

Red Tree tests

I   want to keep it looking quite papery and resisting the urge to go all out with paint effects for the look and animation. I built this tree using just a simple poly plane and textured in photoshop using a Tea-stained effects. Upon doing this I really like the old Tea-Stained effect for the textures and may use this throughout the book. I am currently playing around with making similar assets like a sun, moon, bushes and clouds.

For my final year at university I have taken on the task of producing an animated music video for musician Heg Doughty

The song Red is based on the well known story of Little Red Riding Hood. But everything is not as it seems in these woods as Little Red and The Wolf let fear get the better of them.

In collaboration with Heg we have decided to produce a 3D pop up book style animation to portray the story.

Little Red Playblast from Stuart Taylor on Vimeo.

This is a quick playblast to how to the opening of the song may start.
